SFP transceivers(small form-factor pluggable) are modules act for connecting the electrical circuitry from the module using the optical or copper network, popular for both telecommunication and knowledge communications applications. The SFP transceiver isn't standardized by official standards body, but instead is per a multi-source agreement (MSA) between competing manufacturers.
Advantages
The SFP was created after the GBIC interface, and allows greater port density (quantity of transceivers per cm across the edge of a parent board) compared to GBIC, which is why SFP can also be known as mini-GBIC.
SFP transceivers are anticipated to perform at data speeds as high as five gigabits per second (5 Gbps), and perhaps higher. Because SFP modules can be simply interchanged, electro-optical or fiber optic networks could be upgraded and maintained more conveniently than continues to be the case with traditional soldered-in modules. Instead of replacing a whole circuit board containing several soldered-in modules, just one module can be taken off and replaced for repair or upgrading. This could result in a substantial financial savings, both in maintenance as well as in upgrading efforts.
Types
SFP Transceivers have a diverse range of detachable interfaces to multimode/single-mode fiber optics, that allows users to decide on the appropriate transceiver based on the required optical range for that network. SFP transceivers are very different types dealing with different wavelength for a number of kinds of distances. Signal transmitting rate of those modules vary from 100Mbps up to 4Gbps or even more, working distance of those SFP transceiver modules could be from 500 meters to 100 kilo meters, working wavelength of various SFP modules are usually 850nm, 1310nm and 1550nm, there's also CWDM type SFP transceivers available. For instance, SX SFP use 850nm for optimum 550 meters, LX SFP use 1310nm for optimum 10km, ZX SFP could reach 80km.
There's also Copper SFP Transceiver with copper cable interfaces, which permit a host device designed primarily for optical fiber communications also to communicate over unshielded twisted pair networking cables. Modern optical SFP transceivers support digital diagnostics monitoring (DDM) functions, also referred to as digital optical monitoring (DOM). This selection gives users the opportunity to monitor the real-time parameters of SFP, for example optical output power, optical input power, temperature, laser-bias current and transceiver supply voltage. DOM function for SFP is optional, it help users detect real-time SFP working status.
Applications
SFP interfaces a network device motherboard (for any switch, router, media converter or similar device) to some fiber optic or copper networking cable. SFP transceiver supports communications standards including SONET, Gigabit Ethernet, Fiber Channel along with other communications standards. Additionally they allow the transport of fast Ethernet and gigabit Ethernet LAN packets over time-division-multiplexing-based WANs, along with the transmission of E1/T1 streams over packet-switched networks.
Fiberstore provides several types of SFP fiber optic transceivers, including single mode SFP, multimode SFP and Copper SFP, with assorted working wavelength and processes. We also supply CWDM SFP(including different wavelengths, such as CWDM-SFP-1570, CWDM-SFP-1590, CWDM-SFP-1610), DWDM SFP and cisco sfp 10g fiber transceivers. The compatible SFP brand transceivers we provide include Cisco sfp transceiver, HP sfp transceiver, 3Com sfp, Juniper sfp, Foundry sfp, Extreme sfp, Netgear sfp, Force10 sfp, etc. There is a good news is that Fiberstore is making with 30% discount of the price on most fiber optic products and if you have some needs, welcome to visit our Fiberstore.
